One Response to UK Première of Living the Tradition

  1. Fascinating project. I chanced across it trying to find a translation of Amhrán na Leabhar for the liner notes for my upcoming CD, and it’s all the better that I found your use of Tomás’ condensed and poetic translation, for I’d spent a number of wonderful evenings in sessions with Tomás. He was a very welcoming man with a huge knowledge of traditional Irish music as well as a lot of songs and tunes. What a loss his death was. My special love is for the “big” songs of Munster. I also love doing field “research” about their background–really just poking around and asking people questions and seeing where I will be led. I did that with Cath Chéim an Fhia with some wonderful results. Can’t wait to get my DVD copy of your film. And I’m wondering if the organizers of our Sean-nós Festival (Sean-nós Northwest) might want to schedule an actual screening. (Táim imo chónaí i bPortland, Oregon.) But that would probably have to be next year, for this year’s schedule is pretty much all set up. Go raibh míle maith agat as ucht do scannán agus to cheol.
